To Our Shareholders and Investors (2021)
Excerpt from the notice of convocation of the 16th Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders
TO BE THE NEW STANDARD Building a platform with Smaregi, aiming for the top share of Japan's POS market
For the fiscal year ended April 2021, net sales came to 3,324 million yen (+2.3% YoY), and operating profit reached 845 million yen (+12.6% YoY; operating profit margin of 25.4%). Despite the uncertain conditions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, we achieved increases in both sales and profits for the eighth consecutive year. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all of you for your unwavering support.
This year also marked a full decade since we launched Smaregi in 2011. Looking back, Smaregi was born out of our determination to turn things around amid the hardship of the Lehman Shock recession, so it has also been ten years spent building "a business model resilient to economic downturns." It is precisely this background that underlies our lean, profit-focused management today, and I believe it is why we have been able to steadily build up profit even through the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the next decade, as set out in our medium-term management plan, we will aim for the top share of the POS market in Japan under the slogan "TO BE THE NEW STANDARD." The foundation for this is the "Smaregi App Market (Smaregi 4)," released in July 2020.
Smaregi App Market (Smaregi 4)
This initiative transforms Smaregi into a platform, meaning Smaregi now has the potential to become the POS register for every type of store. Smaregi itself will continue to provide core register functionality, while the App Market offers a wide range of industry-specific functions built by third parties, allowing us to meet the needs of virtually any type of business. We take real pride in this mechanism, which we believe should become the next-generation standard for POS, and we consider it a major step forward for our Company.
As it happens, Smaregi's tenth anniversary arrived right in the middle of an uncertain, ongoing pandemic. We will continue to maintain lean, profit-focused management while, following the example of SaaS companies in the US and Europe, actively investing to pursue continuous high growth.
As the saying goes, a crisis is also an opportunity. We will continue to treat the instability of the pandemic as a chance to take the actions that will drive our leap forward over the next decade.
We ask for your continued, enthusiastic support as our shareholders.
